Paddle Tail Suet Feeder
The paddle tall holds one suet cake while providing a secure, tree trunk like surface. This makes it ideal for the Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens). The Paddle Tail feeder allows the Downy to prop its tail in a natural position allowing it to eat while being balanced. Downy Woodpeckers have spines on the ends of their tail feathers, providing support while they eat. Their tails are supported by very strong muscles, attached to wide pelvic bones, which move and hold the tail allowing them to climb, drill and eat without loosing their balance.

The Downy climbs by propping its stiff, sharply pointed tail feathers against the tree while shifting its leg hold. With its body close to the trunk and its head bobbing it can dart up, down or sideways at incredible speed.

They are unafraid of humans and come to feeders readily. Of the 198 species, the Downy is one of the few woodpeckers that can be attracted to your feeder. And, since Downy Woodpeckers stake out their territory against members of their own species, once there they will likely be a frequent sight. They get along well with all other species of birds.

The Paddle Tail has a high quality squirrel resistant hanging cable.

The cable is attached with screws, not staples, providing a secure attachment.

The wood is white aromatic cedar for long lasting outdoor life.

It holds one suet cake.

Great for woodpeckers and other clinging birds.
